Coveting

Exodus 20:17  Thou shalt not covet they neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet they neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

The Lord does not take disobeying His Word lightly.  When He says, “THOU SHALT NOT,”  that is exactly what He means.  When seeking the Lord about the word “Covet,” He spoke to my spirit as though the word was an acronym.  I heard the Holy Spirit say the following:

When you COVET—Compare Other’s Valuables, Expect Trouble!

Covet is another word for “Comparisonitis.”  You start to compare your life, your wife, your job, your looks, your children, and your stuff to what other people have.  The Lord says when you do this expect trouble, expect heartbreak, expect failure, expect disappointment because you were never meant to have what the Lord has given to someone else.  Don’t ever forget this, what God has for you it is for you and what God has for your neighbor, it is for your neighbor.  You can spend your whole life trying to get something that was never intended for you.  Did you ever wish you had someone else’s spouse.  Think about this, if you had them they may not be as appealing to you if they were not meant for you.  They may seem great from a distance, but if they were your spouse they would be someone totally different because you are totally different from the spouse they have.  Have you ever though that someone was a nice person until you had to work for them or live with them.  The grass may look greener on the other side of the fence, but you may find out when you get over there that is was only artificial turf.

Coveting is another way of feeling sorry for yourself and the Lord will not come to your pity party   I don’t care how bad things may be in your life, there is always someone who is willing to be in your shoes, living your life.  You may be in debt and someone is dying to even get credit.  Your roof may be leaking, but millions around the world would love to have any roof, even a leaky roof over their head.  You may be in a wheelchair, but there are thousands confined to a bed who wish they could sit up in a wheelchair for one hour.  You may be blind, but there is someone who wishes they could erase all of the horrors they have seen.  DON’T COVET, it will only lead to trouble.  You may want the shoes your neighbor had, but you don’t have the narrow feet she has so those shoes will hurt your feet and cause you trouble.  You may want the car or house your neighbor has, but you don’t have the job the pays enough to afford the taxes or car payment or you may not know that your neighbor is working two jobs.  You may also find out that if you had the house, you couldn’t afford to furnish it.   Did you ever think that your neighbor is being blessed because they are serving the Lord and are not worried about what others have, AMEN!

The Lord loves you and knows exactly what you need and when you need it, He is your provider and He does not see His righteous forsaken nor His seed begging bread.   When you covet, you are telling the Lord that He doesn’t know what He is doing because He didn’t give you what you think you should have.  It is a lack of trust and faith and without faith you cannot please God nor enter into His promises for you.

Coveting is a desire to have something that belongs to someone else that was not meant for you or to lust after something that is not for you.

When you Covet, it  Crime, Obstinacy, Viciousness, Excess and Trials.

Anyway you look it, if you are coveting anything, you are headed for trouble and are offending the Lord, as well as, being disobedient to His command.

Try spending your time comparing your life to Christ and desire the things of the Spirit.  Let the Holy Scriptures, the Word of God be your plumb line for what you should have and how you should live.

May the Lord bless you in this endeavor.
